Hybrids HOP on a Worldwide Record
Parade of Green Automobiles to Stretch Over 2 miles – powered by Smart Motors
Madison, WI. The saying goes “If life's a parade, then join it.” If this holds true, then roughly 500 hybrid automobile lovers will “join it” on Sunday, July 24, as Smart Motors tries to set a new Guinness World Record™ for longest hybrid vehicle parade.
In an event known as Hybrids On Parade, or HOP, hybrids owners from throughout the Midwest will converge on Madison to set the record. The goal – to string up 500 hybrid vehicles in a parade stretching over two miles, crushing the previous Guinness World Record™ for largest hybrid vehicle parade—auto enthusiasts in Belgium set the record in 2010 with a 140 car parade.
“It's well known Madison has a green streak,” says Smart Motors HOP organizer, Paul Cooley. “So it only makes sense that we also hold a world record associated with the technology.”
HOP is open to any make or model of hybrid vehicle and is limited to the first 500 entrants. The line of Hybrids stretching over 2 miles will begin and end at Smart Motors on Odana Road.
“The features of hybrid vehicles really lend it to a parade situation,” say’s Allen Foster, vice president and general manager at Smart Motors. Even with 500 vehicles traveling over 2+ miles the end result is that they stay in electric mode for all of, or nearly all of the parade.
Entries will be limited to the first 500 registered.

7am to 9:30am – check in and breakfast reception for participants
10am – HOP begins with a police escort
11:45am – Record breaking address and final remarks at Smart Motors
“This will really put Madison on the map and cement our position as environment-conscious, green-loving consumers,” says Cooley. Paul continues "to this end, we have worked with TerraPass to ensure that this event will be more then carbon neutral."
Particpants are encouraged to attend Green Drive Expo on the Dane County Fairgrounds at the Alliant Energy Center after the conclusion of the hybrid parade.
